Best Missed Call Text Back Software in 2026: 6 Tools Compared, Plus the Done-for-You Option

Compare six missed call text back software options on price, which number texts the caller, consent, and year-one cost. Includes a done-for-you build.

The best missed call text back software for a one-to-five-person service business depends on one question: will you set it up and keep it running yourself? If yes, Quo at $19 a month is the cheapest clean option. If no, a one-time build on the number you already publish costs less than almost every subscription by the second year. This post compares six options: Quo, GoHighLevel, Podium, Emitrr, TextBack, and the done-for-you build we offer at Alpenglow AI. Prices were checked against each vendor’s pricing page in October 2026.

What missed call text back software should actually do

Strip away the feature lists and a text-back system has four jobs.

  • Text within 60 seconds, from a number the caller recognizes. A reply from the number they just dialed reads as the business. A reply from a strange number reads as spam.
  • Handle consent and STOP. A missed call is permission to reply once about that call. It is not permission to market. Every message carries an opt-out, and the system honors it.
  • Route the reply to a person or an inbox. The caller texts back “yes, tomorrow morning works.” Someone has to see that within minutes, in a phone app or in the CRM.
  • Know your hours. The message at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday and the message at 11 p.m. on a Saturday should say different things.

One thing it should not do: pretend to be a person. An automatic text back for missed calls works because it is honest about being automatic. “We missed your call, here is how to reach us fastest” outperforms a fake “Hey, this is Mike” every time.

Prices checked October 2026 on each vendor’s own pricing page: Quo, GoHighLevel, Podium, Emitrr, TextBack. Our own pricing is on the missed call text-back page.

Quo: the cheapest tool if you will set it up yourself

Quo is a business phone app that happens to include an auto-reply rule for missed calls. For a solo operator or a two-person shop it is hard to beat on price. You get a business number, a shared inbox, and the text-back rule for $19 a month on the monthly plan.

The setup takes an afternoon. You port your number or forward it to the new Quo line, write the auto-reply, set the hours, and file the A2P 10DLC registration so carriers will deliver the automated texts. That registration is the step most owners skip and then wonder why half their texts never arrive.

The catch is that you own all of it: the registration, the message copy, the hours rule, and the question of what happens when a caller replies and nobody is watching the app. Quo gives you the tool. It does not give you the system.

GoHighLevel: built in, if you are already paying for it

GoHighLevel includes missed call text back as a workflow trigger, and it is a good one. The text goes out from the number the caller dialed when that number can send texts, which is the behavior you want.

The problem is the floor. The Starter plan is $97 a month before phone and text usage. Paying that for text-back alone makes no sense. If you already run a marketing agency or a sales team on GoHighLevel, turn the feature on and skip the rest of this list. If you do not, you would be buying a CRM to get a text message.

One known trap: the default workflow can text the same caller twice if they call back quickly. Add a wait step and a “contact already texted today” condition before you go live.

Podium and Emitrr: text-back inside a bigger platform

Podium and Emitrr sell text-back as one feature inside a messaging platform. Podium’s Core plan is $399 a month and covers review requests, payments by text, and a team inbox across locations. Emitrr starts at $99 a month with appointment reminders, a text-enabled landline, and two-way texting for front-desk offices.

Both are the right choice when you want all of that. A three-location dental group or a property management office gets real value from the platform. A plumber who wants the missed emergency call recovered does not. For a missed call text back service on its own, both are overkill, and the Podium price in particular only makes sense once you are using most of what it includes.

TextBack is a newer tool built for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical contractors at $79 a month with 300 outbound segments included. Its consent model is the strictest in this list and worth copying: a missed call alone is not treated as permission to text, callers are offered a choice to opt in, and the system checks opt-out status before every send.

Its limit is the number. Unless you port your line, the text comes from an assigned TextBack number, so the caller sees a number they did not dial. For a trade where the caller is standing in two inches of water, a strange number is one more reason to call the next company instead.

The done-for-you option: a one-time build on your own number

Alpenglow AI sells the build described here. The other five tools are compared from their public pricing and documentation.

The missed call text-back build is $750 one-time, and it is live in one day. We build it on the number you already publish, using Quo as the platform. If you are on a different carrier we port or forward the line as part of the setup; customers see nothing change. We write the messages with you, in your words, with separate versions for business hours and after hours. Every text handles STOP automatically, and the system only texts people who called you first, which keeps it inside the FTC and TCPA rules for business texting. Replies land in your phone and in your CRM if you use one. The 10DLC registration is filed as part of the build. After launch, you own it. The only ongoing cost is the Quo seat, about $19 a month, paid to Quo.

It is the wrong choice in two cases. If you already pay for GoHighLevel or Podium, use the text-back you are already paying for. If you are a solo operator who enjoys software and will keep up with the registration and the copy, Quo on its own is cheaper. The build is for the owner who would rather pay once and never think about it again. That is also the only missed call text back software option on this list where someone else answers when it breaks.

What each option costs over twelve months

Monthly prices hide the real comparison. Here is the same list with registration fees included, rounded, for a single-location business.

OptionMonth 1Year 1Year 2
Quo, set up yourselfAbout $40About $270About $250
TextBack$79$948$948
Emitrr$99$1,188$1,188
GoHighLevel Starter$120 plus usageAbout $1,200 plus usageSame
Podium Core$404About $4,850About $4,850
Alpenglow AI build plus Quo seatAbout $770About $980About $230

The build is the most expensive option in month one and the cheapest by month fourteen for anyone who would otherwise pay $79 a month or more. It is the most expensive option over two years only against Quo on its own, and that comparison assumes you do the setup, the registration, and the message writing yourself and never need help. If you want calls answered rather than texted, the year-one cost of an AI receptionist is a different calculation.

Which number the text comes from, and why it decides the reply rate

Callers reply to numbers they recognize. When the text arrives from the number they just dialed, it is obviously the business, and most people answer it. When it arrives from a number they have never seen, it looks like the texts everyone has learned to delete.

Tools that text from your own number: GoHighLevel when the dialed number can send texts, Quo once you port your line to it, and our build, which ports or forwards your published number into Quo. Podium texts from your Podium number, which becomes your business number if you move to it fully. TextBack texts from an assigned number unless you port. Emitrr text-enables your existing landline, which keeps the number but adds a step.

If a vendor cannot tell you which number the text will come from, that is the question to ask before you sign.

A missed call is not consent to market. It is consent to reply once, about that call, with a way to reach you. That is what keeps an automatic reply inside the TCPA rules the FCC enforces for business texting. Send a follow-up offer a week later and you have crossed the line.

Every message carries STOP. Not a link, the word. Carriers filter messages that lack an opt-out, and the systems in this list all handle it, but check that yours sends the confirmation text when a caller opts out and never texts that number again.

A2P 10DLC is the carrier registration every US business needs before sending automated texts from a standard ten-digit number. You register the business and the campaign through The Campaign Registry or through your vendor. It costs roughly $20 one-time plus $1.50 to $10 a month depending on the platform, and unregistered traffic is throttled or blocked. Quo and GoHighLevel pass the fees through and expect you to file. Podium charges $5 a month per location. TextBack handles it on its own numbers. Our build files it for you as part of setup.

Three text-back messages that work for trades

Each is under 160 characters so it arrives as one segment. The STOP line is part of the message, not an afterthought.

Plumbing, after hours

Sorry we missed you. If this is an emergency, call back and press 1 for the on-call plumber. Otherwise book a time here: [link]. Reply STOP to opt out.

Roofing, storm season

Sorry we missed your call. We are inspecting storm damage all week. Reply with your address and we will text an inspection time. Reply STOP to opt out.

HVAC, during hours

Sorry we missed you. A tech will call you back within 2 minutes. If you would rather text, reply here with what is going on. Reply STOP to opt out.

We write messages like these with every owner, in the owner’s words. The best one we have shipped for a plumbing company was shorter than all three.

How to choose in two questions

Will you set it up and maintain it yourself? If yes, Quo. If no, the build.

Do you already pay for a platform that includes it? If yes, GoHighLevel or Podium, and turn it on today. If no, go back to question one.

That gives four outcomes: Quo for the hands-on solo operator, GoHighLevel or Podium for the business already on them, TextBack or Emitrr for the office that wants a messaging platform and will configure it, and the build for the owner who wants it done and owned. Most home services companies we talk to land in the last group.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best missed call text back software for a small business?

Quo is the best tool if you will configure and maintain it yourself, at $19 a month. A one-time build on your existing number is the best option if you want it done for you and owned outright, at $750 with no monthly fee beyond the phone seat.

How much does missed call text back software cost?

Between $19 and $399 a month as a subscription, plus roughly $20 one-time and $1.50 to $10 a month for carrier registration. As a one-time build it is $750 plus a $19 a month phone seat.

Do I need A2P 10DLC registration for missed call text back?

Yes, for any automated text sent from a standard US business number. Either you file it through your vendor or the vendor files it for you. Unregistered traffic is throttled or blocked by carriers.

Can missed call text back replace an answering service?

No. Text-back recovers the lead after the call is missed. An answering service or AI receptionist answers the call. For many small service businesses text-back recovers most of the lost leads at a fraction of what an answering service costs, but it does not talk to anyone. If you need the call answered, the AI receptionist comparison covers six options the same way.

Will customers be annoyed by an automatic text?

Not when it comes from the number they dialed, arrives within a minute, offers a real next step, and includes an opt-out. Callers are annoyed by silence and by texts from strangers.

Does the Alpenglow build work with Jobber, Housecall Pro, or ServiceTitan?

Yes. Replies and new lead records route into the CRM or field-service tool you already use, so a text conversation becomes a job without anyone retyping it.
